Truck makes a whinning noise when slowing down to a stop. Makes a whinning noise coming back up to speed and no reverse or overdrive. Do you think I need a whole new transmission or just a new gear or two?:-)

sounds like the clutch bands are gone in the trany. or it could be the valve body. best to get it to a trany shop for rebuild. or you might look into a trany from the junk yard. same thing happened to my 97 silverado, and S10 automatic and it was cheaper buying a used trans from a junk yard then having it rebuilt.
