1996 Chevy S-10 Water in the oil

1996 Chevy S-10 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

There is water in the engine oil department. The spark plugs are all firing fine. I want to know how water can be getting into the oil department and no oil getting into the water department of the engine. It runs great for about 10 miles then it dies out, could it be the intake manifold. What could be causing this problem?

Hi there,

possibly this is a cracked head, the oil pressure is greater than the coolant pressure and often you do get oil passing one way, in sever problems and with head gaskets you will see oil in the water and water inn the oil.

Could be a cracked head but a failed intake gasket will cause the same thing. Don't run it with coolant in the oil as the coolant will damage the bearings and destroy the engine in short order.

Usually a cracked head shows up with more than just coolant in the oil.

Get a combustion gas test kit and see if there are gasses present in the radiator that shouldn't be there.
I'm betting there won't be and that this is the common intake gasket failure. I do a LOT of them.

Usually there is some leakage outside the engine but sometimes they just break on the inner section and your first sign is water in the oil.
