My son has a 96 Chevy S-10. He will be attending college next year. We bought the truck for him to use while at college. So far we have replaced the brakes, ball joints, head gasket and water pump. The fly wheel went out this last weekend. Before I bought the truck I asked a few mechanics who told me these trucks will typically run to around 200k - 250k miles. I want him to have a reliable vehicle while at college and not have to worry about fixing the truck all the time. Please advise if you would sell the truck or not?

It sounds like you may have fixed everything already. Honestly, the 4.3L engine will go over 200K it properly maintained. However, other things will wear out and need replaced. Today's cars run a lot longer because people maintain them better, but things like bearings, electrical components... still wear out.

If you are like me, I would rather have to put a couple hundred in to a car every 5 or 6 months rather than having a 400 dollar a month car payment. Really, I can't guarantee how long this vehicle will last because I don't know its past, but like your mechanic said, it's not uncommon for them to run 200+K
