I see evidence of oil leaking from both sides of the differential where the axle shaft housing enters it. Are there oil seals inside there that should be replaced? Are there special tools required to remove the axle shafts and replace the seals? Should all 3 seals be replaced (axle shafts and pinion shaft seals)? I do most of my own work on my truck, is this something the "shadetree" mechanic could do with the proper tools?

Hi The tricky part is NOT to turn Diff when carrier pin is removed to get at C locks to remove axles. Remove Diff cover then bolt that hold pin then slide pin down. Push in each axle C lock will fall out. remove axle remove seal. reverse order. Seal up diff add gear oil. If pinion is not bad leave it but if you go for it will need impact gun and pinion removal tool. Diagrams will help I hope
