Seems to be a mystery with this model. Alot of others have the same problem. Rough idle. Have done the dist cap, fuel filter, pcv valve, egr valve, vaccumm leaks, cleaned all throttle body, plugs look good. Still does the same, will run cold for short trips, even freeway, then starts and acts like it gets no gas stalls and dies, usually in gear not in park. Turning on the lights, radio and heater has a "dulling" effect also. I took it to a very experienced buddy and he noticed the injectors were pretty "drippy"-not atomizing- I had already cleaned them but still drips- all on the butterfly while idle. Going to get a swap out off one of the others I own to compare. The IAC valve is also on the list...any thing else would be of help. Also the heater runs intermittently, replaced the entilre dash a couple months ago and the fan LO-HI switch worked great for a while???
*Update*Took off the whole TBI and cleaned it. Snapped the threads on the IAC and replaced it. Cleaned and checked the injectors and filters. Seems to do a little better, the fuel looks a little more atomized. Putting it in reverse still studders and shakes. Seems almost electrical- heater still works intermittently.
*Update #2*- Nobody has answer for this? It's been a couple of months now and still not running. It won't hold and idle. Took it to a mechanic-stumped-, he said maybe the fuel pump and it's running lean. Got some advice to check the distributor, it was all rusty so replaced it with brand new one- still no different. Replaced all the plugs too. The main things are: loping idle and dies, lots of white smoke out the exhaust, and the heater works occasionally. Again any help would be nice. I guess the help I need is saws-all and a shallow grave! Others advise the ECM is bad, timing is off, trans fluid or coolant leaking in manifold, fuel pump and relay...???
