I would like to know how to replace the lower bearing on the steering column of my chevy truck. I cannot see how the unit that houses the ignition switch comes out to replace the bearing.

STEERING WHEEL & COLUMN SWITCHES -1983 Chevrolet S10 Pickup Page 1 of 1 STEERING COLUMN LOCK All Models 1.Remove steering wheel and lock plate. Lift directional signal switch up far enough to slip over end of shaft. It is not necessary to remove switch entirely. 2.Place key in lock cylinder and rotate to "RUN" position. Remove lock retaining screw being careful not to drop screw down column. Rotate lock cylinder to align cylinder key with keyway in housing. Pull cylinder from housing. Fig. 4: Removing Lock Cylinder Assembly. Align cylinder key with keyway in housing. 3.To install, hold lock cylinder and rotate key clockwise to stop. Align cylinder key and housing keyway and insert cylinder. Complete assembly by reversing removal procedure.

I have the same problem, but I lost the keys to the ignition. Once you get to the step of removing the ignition, how do you remove the ignition without the keys?
