Air Conditioning problem
1998 Chevy Prizm 94000 miles

My AC compressor went & my mechanic didn't seem interested in calling around for prices on a rebuilt which is all I can afford. So I ordered it myself but now am concerned that he will sock me with the labor charge since he won't make anything on the part. I have no idea how long this job could take. He's very experienced (30 years). I have no idea whether a reasonable time would be 2 hours or 6. Please give me some idea. I have reason to believe that he hasn't always been totally honest, but I'm at his mercy. I have no one else to ask. THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

There is lots of info here but I don't see the answer to my question which was "what would be the approximate labor TIME to replace the AC compressor by an experienced mechanic"?

It takes an hour to remove and replace the compressor by Mit1 time/labor and there's other things involved-like evacuating/charging it depends who you dealing with, once again it varies with location
