I have a 1992 Chevrolet C1500 Pickup with 189,000 miles on it. I have broken the key off in the ignition, and have been unable to remove it . . . so I assume I will now have to remove/replace the ignition. What do I need to do, and how do I go about it?

:?
Thanks,

I had this happen once, I was told to take the part of the key not stuck in the ignition. And dab a little crazy glue to the tip, stick it in the ignition, and hope that it sticks to the other piece of the key. It didn't work for me, but maybe I wasn't doing it right.

glue will mostly likely not work u will need to change the switch. To do this u need a puller for the steering wheel and then a special tool too compress the black piece under the steering wheel to remove the clip to remove that piece. If u do not have expericence with this or a manual to show u step by step how to do it then I don't recommend u do this yourself. It is very easy to break things inside the column if not careful.

when i done this i had to change the hole lock but i ve done it several times a much easier way.we used a slide hammer and popped the whole ignition lock out.alot easier than pulling the wheel off and i never had a problem.

if it's broken off just to the inside of the ignition, try using two sewing needles. use them like prybars one on each side. even try a strong magnet. duct tape pushed into the lock to the key might even work. if know one knows but you and you can still start and lock and unlock the car why worry.
