My friends 74 Custom Deluxe Pickups timing is off. How do we go about resetting it?

How do you reset the timing on a 1974 Chevy pickup?

If you aren't that experienced at doing this I would reccomend getting a timing light and a good friend that has some knowledge in this area. Then you should probably start with a setting of 8-12 degrees BTDC( before top dead center).Most older chevy's
normally are somewhere in this range unless some hi-po mods have been done. As stated it needs to be running without missing due to fouled plugs and such.
If your timing is too retarded you will "ping" at slow rpm's and too advanced will "ping" at higher rpm's.Either way you don't want to hear that. Timing by "ear" can be difficult even for experienced people
working on motors. You get in that range[8-12*] and you should be able to fine tune from there. :wink:
