CarStarting But not reving \ accelarating \idling on its own

1999 Chevy Monza Sedan 1600cc . First realized car not wanting to go over hills engine will die out. Started by changing all plugs and plug wires, problem still existed, then got diagnostic tested showed the spark control unit faulty purchased new one then it started well then problem reoccurred when car got warmer. Changed the head gasket, changed lifters, fuel injector, refaced head and now the car starts but is not reving, and after one minute in idle gives a loud back fire actually saw fire coming from fuel injector. I was told problem could be fuel pump, or the lifters not building enough pressure to allow valves to open so vehicle can rev. However I have purchased so many parts and yet the initial problem exist. What do you suggest I do at this stage. By the way its a manual gear selection 1600 x 1600 engine and orange engine check light comes on when you drove car for ten minutes..
Can the lifters cause the car not to rev. :? :(

Lets get it scanned for OBD2 code/s and comeback with it to start the diagnosis.

Have you checked the oxygen and throttle position sensors? These are easy/inexpensive to replace compared to all of the other things you have done. Improper mixture will make a lack of power. Improper throttle position sensing won't give the injectors the proper signal for fuel when acceleration is required.

Thnaks guys and very sorry for not responding sooner. We managed to solve the problem on Saturday Sept 15, I could not get a diagnostic done because the vehicle was not idling. Further checks revealed however the problem came from the timing. The crank shaft gear had broken its key. This is one that was not replaceable so I had to revert to getting a new one.
I still see the engine check light on after driving for ten minutes but we suspect it might be from the broken speed ometer cable that we recently discovered. However I will proceed to get the diagnostic done and forward the results.

And yes we had to use carberotor cleaner to free the system then it began to idle.

I hope the solutions thus far can also help any other person experiencing a similar problem. Again many thanks, you guys are doing a tremendous job here.
