BRAKE CALIPER WASHER

MY HUSBAND IS CHANGING THE BRAKES ON HIS 96 CHEVY ASTRO VAN AND CANNOT GET THE SPACER TO FIT BACK IN. WILL IT EFFECT THE BRAKES IF HE DOESN'T PUT THE SPACER BACK IN :?:

Do you mean the thin brake pad shim?

The spacer I am talking about is a round cylinder about an inch long with a 1/4 inch hole that fits over the bolt that secures the brake calipers between the caliper and the caliper mount. I hope that description helps. :oops:

yes, you need that caliper slide mount, It is held by a O ring, put a small amount of oil on it, that should help you slide it back into the caliper.

No honey, it will fit on the bolt, there just isnt' enough space for it to go between the caliper and the mount now that my husband put new brakes on. It's like because the new pads are thicker, there is less space. Thanks for trying to help. :D

I was out there helping him, and he cleaned it with WD 40. He forgot to compress the brake, and thought that would do the trick, and it did give a little more room. It slides freely, but you have to put it between the caliper and the mount before you slide it on. Still, the O ring or whatever it is, will not fit between the two pieces. The spaces is just to long to fit with the new pads. It's like you said, the pads are just a hair too thick. We will check and see if that works!! Thanks!! :idea:
