i wanted to know if the timing belt on a chevy 3500 duelly 6.5 1996 diesel will work with a gas burning timing belt

if you aretalking about the fan belt, no they are different due to the length. If you are talking about timing chain, the 6.5 is gear driven and the gas is chain driven...
