1972 Other Chevrolet Models When I step down on the gas to h

Hi, my name is Justin, I just bought a 72 chevy truck and when I step down on the gas to quick it dies, but if I step on the gas slow it runs fine, and before it is warmed up and I let off the gas it dies, so I must hold the gas peddle down until the truck is warmed up. The guy that I bought it from says that it could be the choke. I was just wondering if this sounds right. Oh ya, the truck has a 305 in it. Thank you for your time and your help, Justin
