Original 350 engine. Original 2bbl carb. Idled and ran well. Rear ended at 25 mph. Body fixed. But now engine spits out small, black chunks at start up, like soot. Also billows lots of white smoke. Runs rough. Plugs oily. From reading your site, sounds like cracked head or blown head gasket. Will pull plugs this weekend, pressurize radiator and crank, as you suggest. Question: could a rear-end collision cause this engine damage? Thanks.

the rear end collission could have stired up things in the gas tank. check the fuel filter, check to see if you can tell if there is any water in the gas. the oily plugs could be from a head gasket, would check the fuel first.
