Shakes or Wobbles problem

i need to fix a leak in the rear main seal. while i'm at it i would like to diagnose WHY my car has a vibration that only kicks in at stop lights. when i am in park or i am driving down the road, the car is smooth sailing. when i come to a stop, however, after a minute the car sharts to shiver and shake. it makes a bassy vibration and feels bad, like something in the trans is going out or is out of balance... since i have to fix this oil leak, different people say different things about what i should do. help?
