speedometer issue, speed sensor?

about 3 weeks ago my speedometer looks as if i am going 120 miles an hour at a stopping position. as i slow down it goes backward 90-80-70. i just saw a spot of red under the car, car is perfoming the same except for the speedometer. transmission? cable? averager cost of repair

Hello,

If the car is operating as usual, it sounds like the speed sensor might be faulty, or it could have gotten loose.
There is a clip that holds the sensor in place and if for some reason the clip falls off the sensor will get loose.
Have you looked to see where is the leak coming from?
It could be from where the speed output sensor goes into the transmission.
Is the check engine light on? Any codes?
