Engine Performance problem
2002 Chevy Monte Carlo 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic
----------------------------------------------------------------
I have a 2002 monte carloo SS with the engine light on. Once in awhile I hit the acceleration and my car moves VERY slowly, the revs go up then it does some sore of vibrating then grabs quickly (sometimes tires squeel) and takes off fast. After telling someone about my symptoms they said it sounds like a transmission problem. After getting my oil changed, I was told by the tecnician my transmission fluid was burnt/almost black, he advised me not to change it cause I might have a transmission problem and it could possibly make the situation worst. After speaking to someone else, they said Tork convertor?, I am confussed, I am a chick and I don't think snyone will tell me the truth so I am here asking you!!, As it stands I am driving around with dirty transmission fluid, and that vibrating once in awhile. Thanks!!

First thing you need to do is have the codes read, Autozone does it free, Post the results with the code number(s). Even if the service engine light is not on, there should be freeze frame data stored.
If it won't make it to Autozone, buy a cheap scanner, they can be had for 30-40 dollars, a good investment, since they cover all cars sold in the USA from 96 on...
If the light is blinking, it means possible damage to the converter...service it right away!
If the tranny fluid is that bad, it won't be long before it fails anyway, so change it and see what happens...

I believe Canada has the same electrnics in thier cars as we have here...Buy a handheld scanner if you don't have any stores that scn for free, you can buy a small unit for about 40.00 US.
