Engine Performance problem
2001 Chevy Monte Carlo 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 97K miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
Car has been running roughly and had stumble with initial acceleration. It also seemed to surge somewhat at lower running speeds.
I had a tuneup, changing plugs, air filter and fuel filter. The car was completely serviced with new filer and oil also. Most of the performance seems to be present now, but the EGR light stays on contantly, unless it is read with code reader, and then erased from memory. Even after erasing, it will light soon again and stay on.
Do I need to just replace the EGR valve (these things are really expensive for these cars), or can it be cleaned of carbon deposits if the problem is strickly mechanical? My gas mileage has gone way down in the last few months. Could the EGR, or some other similar problem make this much difference in the fuel economy?
Your help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Bill
