My "service engine soon" light went on today, the same day as I happened to take my car in for an oil change. The guy at the oil change place checked the codes and said it was my catalytic positioning sensor. He said sometimes an electrical surge will cause this to happen, turned off the light, and said if it came back on again to get it checked more thoroughly. Well, it came back on again. What does this part do, how serious is it, and what should I do? Two other symptoms: I've noticed the RPMS are pretty high, about 35,000; and I've noticed an electrical burning smell after I turn the car off.

I've never heard of a catalytic converter positioning sensor unless Henry Ford just invent it-you sure this guy is not a parts changer and trying to pull a leg or so. If I were you go somewhere else, your wallet is fixing to get stripped out. He probably meant an oxygen sensor-let me know so I can assist you
