1997 Chevy Monte Carlo 6 cyl Wheel Drive Type unknown Automatic 90,000 miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
I have the 3.1 Monte Carlo and I took my s-belt off. I had to unscrew the belt tensioner and it then came off along with the belt. I routed the new belt on there but I cannot figure out how to put it back on.

Thank you

But the tensioner has a notch on the back of it that rests in the engine block that keeps me from pulling it up more than a 1/10 of an inch which is not enough to get the belt around the alternator. Which makes me wonder if I am going about it wrong

The center bolt should nt be release or loosen
the tensioner is an automatic spring loaded
check the picture
place tool in the square and pull tensioner away from the belt that how it should be done
and if you cant do that then may be you need a new tensioner
good luck

Thanks that sounds like a good plan, question though, is there a name for the tool that I put on the square end? because I am sure I don't have anything like that around my garage.
