1996 Chevy Monte Carlo window failure

Interior problem
1996 Chevy Monte Carlo 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 220k miles

Hello, i have a 1996 monte carlo with 220,000 km. I have power windows and just yestorday i rolled my window down and but it does not go back up. It has gone up once since then but hoping it was fine I rolled it back down and it is currently sitting in my driveway covered by a tarp due to the window not moving. any suggestions to what might be wrong or repair quotes? thanks for helping

Are you talking about the driver side window? If a window motor goes faulty, it's usually the driver side first, the one that is used the most. Do the other windows work ok?

Yes it is the drivers side window. it goes down like new still but will not go up. All my locks, passanger window, and everything else on the interior works. I have checked my fuzes with a tester and they are fine. i currently have the door panel removed and i see nothing abnormal when the moror is always warm to the touch when you try oporation.

I have also noticed on some models, when a window motor becomes faulty, the power window circuit breaker will be hot to the touch.

well this model i have is the 96' prototype.
would you be able to tell me if it is posable to reset the cercuit breaker manually and were to do so? it may be worth a try. The repair manual i have does not tell me anything.

Hello, if the other windows work ok, it isn't the breaker. It should reset by itself. There maybe other breakers in your fuse box with the same rating, if there is, you can swap them out. I don't think it will help, and they need to be the same amp rating.

thank you for all the help i am reciving from you. i had connected a car battery to my window motor since it takes the same volts. It rolled my window up no problem and i reasspembled the door. Im sure that the last thing that narrows it down to is the switch its self because when i moved the contacts i got it to budge up for a moment and that was all. I'll have to get a new one or one from a scrap car. thank you for all the help you have been giving me. if you too are a monte carlo owner and ever need help i'd be glade to help assist you due to im a apprentice in automotive i know mostly only engine work.

Great, it sounds like you got it going your way. I always doublecheck window motors off the battery after removal, if they act up the same way they did in the door, I junk-em. Goodluck
