1996 Chevy Monte Carlo car ran out of gas so replaced fuel

1996 Chevy Monte Carlo 6 cyl

the car ran out of gas so the fuel pump replaced and now it starts but idles for a couple seconds but wont stay running can u tell me what the problem is?

It sounds like the fuel pump isnt putting out the right pressure. Get a pressure test gauge and check your fuel pressure. If the pump is new....you might want to go back and check that all the hoses are tight and not leaking. Also check your fuel filter. When you run the tank dry.....it sometimes picks up some junk from the bottom of the tank. Could be a clogged fuel filter.
