A/C clutch bearing is making light metalic noises when free-wheeling. It engages and cools without a problem. I suspect the clutch bearing is failing.
My questions with regards to the repair are these: 1) Can I still pull the clutch assembly on this type of compressor without venting the system? 2) is there enough clearance in the engine compartment to perform this service on the vehicle? I have the clutch service tools kit. 3) How is the bearing retained in the clutch? Snap ring, press-fit, or other? 4) What is the history of success with this type of repair? Does the clutch and bearing assembly come apart simply enough to reassemble well, or is it likely to turn ito a destructive process? This is a $35.00 part (V5 compressor), which I believe will solve my problems. Well, not all of them- the car belongs to my sister, and there is still her to consider.
