I just bought this 2002 Malibu yesterday afternoon. As soon as I drive it around town, both blinkers fail. I can get the hazard lights to work, sometimes. It is kind of like I have to hit the button just right. I have to have blinkers, what could it be and is it going to be expensive?

Also, it is smoking when I take off only......Is this a big deal, or what could it possibly be?

I need help!!!

Have the Turn/Hazard flasher unit check and for the smoke if its blue-your burning oil, Black rich fuel mixture and White your burning coolant.

Subject: Burning white
It is burning white......kinda smells like coolant....is this a big deal? What would cause that?
I am worried about the financial aspect in repairs.....I think it is probably the turn signal flasher, too...is that expensive?

I am worried, 33, SF and I know nothing about cars!!

Get it in and have the tests below done -could be a blown headgasket

Have it block and pressure tested-do the block first to pinpoint a combustion leaking into the cooling system or a gas analyzer to sniff for hydrocarbons at the radiator fill neck.

Pressure test: do not do a pressure test if there's leakage at the headgasket this might cause coolant into the cylinders and lock it up or bend a connecting rod if cranked thereafter. The headgasket should be repaired before doing the pressure test.

If the block and pressure test passes check the following: Thermostat,Pressure test the Rad. cap,Clogged radiator,Fan clutch,Radiator electrical fan, collaspe hoses, water pump.

WOW...............

The car is not overheating....wouldn't that make it overheat?

You need to verify exactly what color it is. White smoke during initial cold starts could be condensation-Once the engine comes up to its normal temperature and its still there-the coolant is being burn in the combustion chamber. Probable Causes: Blown Headgasket/ Crack head or block
