2001 Chevy Malibu thermostat trouble

The thermostat on the dash board doesnt move but the heater is still blowing hot and cold air. Anybody have a clue to what could be wrong? My husband is deployed and would like to save money by trying to fix it myself!!

If you getting all the heat you need on the inside
I would say that the cluster gauge no good or the sending unit
and should not effect the driving of the car
