2000 Chevy Malibu running hot

I keep having to put dex coolant in my car. If I am sitting still for more than 3 mins in one spot it runs hot and all the coolant comes out. Example: waiting in line at a drive through. The water pump was replaced about 5 years ago, and I keep regular oil changes. The check engine light also will not go off. Please advise.
