okay, i have a 2000 chevy malibu, and power steering seems not to be working at all. It is soo tight, and nearly impossible to turn the wheel. I looked in my engine, and under the reservoir, i believe is the pump, and attached to the pump is a pulley(???) which then it looks like some sort of belt that goes around it. Well then today it started making a LOUD noise, so I opened the engine, and it looks like the part called the pulley (the black round wheel that the belt goes around) is falling off and is barely hanging there. I pushed it back into the pump..... so does the whole pump need to be replaced? or the pulley? or?????

if the shaft on the pump is ok then a new pulley will or should help immensly. If the shaft isn't any good thenn you'll need a new pump and pulley.........
