1999 Chevy Malibu ignition wont turn off

My ignition will not turn off, it stays on acc and the airbag light is on, and my gas says it is low, when i have a full tank

I'm not expert but I too had this problem with my 98 Malibu. When I turn my car of I have to push the shifter (where it says drive, reverse,etc.) forward or backwards a little, try that you should hear a click then turn you're key to the off position. My mechanic said that my steering column was worn and had a slight crack in it.
