1997 Chevy Malibu 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

When I leave my car sit for a while and go to start it up it starts up pretty good like it should. But when I shut it off and go to start it up again (like when I get gas or something that requires short time) it doesn't want to start or takes a couple of try's and takes a while to fire when I turn the key. I went to one place and asked them and they said change the fuel filter but I went to another place and they said it wasn't my fuel filter at all and it was my gas cap which wasn't allowing enough air flow. They told me to take the gas cap off for a little while and see if it will start ok. I did this and the car started up ok the first couple of times but now its kind of back to the same way it was before. I'm not sure what to do and I don't want to blow money that i don't need to. Please help.

Hello,

Ok, there are a few possibilities...

Fuel Pump - Fails when hot

Fuel Pump Relay - Fails when hot

Ignition Control Module - Fails when hot

Coolant Temp Sensor - Also failing when hot

So, Is engine light on? If so go by your local part store and have them pull codes. Write them down and post here.

If no engine light next time it happens listen for a low hum coming from the rear of the vehicle, if you don't hear a hum when key is turned to on position then can be the Fuel Pump or Fuel Pump Relay.

Post finding...
