when i start my car when it is cold it tends to idle at a really high speed usually between 2500-3500 rpms sometimes if i gun it a little while still in park it will idle down and other times it takes around five minutes to idle down i was told this was somekind of air flow sensor by a friend with obd1 reader can you tell me what this sensor is called and where it might be i was told it might be on the air intake also i have had some problems with my cooling system the sensor that triggers the fans to turn on dosent seem to be working i know the fans are good because i have tested them myself manually and also have them wired to a toggle switch which i just keep turned on when running what is the name of this sensor thank you very much for your time

I also own a 92 z34. had the same prob. what I did was change the throttle position sensor located to the right/back of the intake. also, right below that is an idle air sensor, both run about $40. the other thing I did was take out a pint of tranny fluid and put in a pint of seafoam trans tune. this lubricates the torque control clutch inside the tranny. since I did this, the car stopped stalling and it idles at 700 rpm. hope this helps. its a cheap fix. you will need an allen wrench to remove/install the sensors. good luck...

air flow sensor = mass air flow sensor
the sensor on your intake is an IAT = Intake Air Temperature sensor
