Engine Performance problem

Hie,
Recently I bought a 2006 used Lumina S. What I have noticed is that when I accelerate from a stand still, to switch to the 2nd gear the car really takes a pressure and then a jerk and then the second gear is swiched. After that no problems switching to others.
I checked the transmission fuild level which seems fine. Is it normal for the car to drag on first gear when the AC is on.
