Engine Cooling problem
1999 Chevy Lumina 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

when stopping or decelerating at all causes the temperature guage to swing way up, the heater starts to blow cold air instead of warm air. After my speed levels off the temperature guage drops back to normal and the heater blows warm air again. What might be causing this problem?

When the engine is cold, remove the radiator cap and see if the coolant is low.
