Transmission problem
1998 Chevy Lumina 6 cyl All Wheel Drive Automatic

Hi, my name is Michelle and I am wondering why in the past couple of weeks, I have been having to put a quart of oil in my Lumina about every four days. I brought it to a friend who is a mechanic, and he doesn't seem to think there is anything wrong with it. He said that I needed a water pump instead. Is there any relationship between these parts, and if you have any suggestions I would truly appreciate it. Happy New Year and I hope to hear back from you soon.

Michelle:
Are you leaking coolant? Honestly, there is no connection between the two unless you have a bad head gasket. Your mechanic friend should recognize that because oil and coolant usually end up mixing in the engine or radiator.

As far as a quart every 4 days, that sounds like a lot. How many miles do you drive in 4 days? Do you ever smell something burning? Have you ever noticed oil on the ground where you park?

Let me know.
