1995 Chevy Lumina Hard shift from P to R

This car is an on the steering shaft gear selector. When going from Park to Reverse it's real hard to shift it. If I pull the shift quickly past R and then back it is normal shift stiffness.

I suspect the linkage may be a little bound up. a little pb blaster or wd 40 and you should be ok
