2000 Chevy Impala. 125,000 miles.

I purchased a replacement switch for the turn signal because the high beams wouldn't stay on. Does the steering wheel have to be removed to replace the turn signal lever? I found one site on the net that says its just a matter of removing two screws, dropping the plastic cover behind the steering wheel and then removing the switch. Is this correct or should I have a professional do it? I was quoted $130 to do it, but money is so tight right now and I have some mechanical experience.

EDIT-
I forgot to mention that this switch doesn't have the cruise control on it. The cruise control is on the steering wheel.

you can just remove the covers behind the steering wheel to replace the switch.
