Car will jump and run, then i shut it off and it is dead

Hi, I have a 2001 chevy impala LS, My car was dead so i jumped it and it started up fine but my cd player won't work and then when i shut my car off after i have jumped it, it wont start back up, it doesn't even try to turn over all it does is make a click, is it my alternator? a dead battery? i check the cords going to the positive side of my battery and negative and they are secure, any information ya'll could provide would be GREATLY appriciated, thanks a lot
