2008 Chevy Impala OnStar

I just picked up my new 2008 Impala. The one thing that really bothers me is the "BigBrother" OnStar system.

I find it an extreme invasion of privacy being "tracked" and them recording when I do my oil changes.

I want to completely disconnect the OnStar system. How do I go about it or where do I find the OnStar module?

i would not advise that until your warranty is up. it may affect it. also when the onstar program (which i think it is only good for a year) you dont have to reactivate it and you wont even notice it is there.

I signed a "Refusal of Service" form for OnStar.
I pulled the 10A fuse marked OnStar from the fuse panel.

I just want to be 100% SURE that the system is "dead".

OnStar is all about "control". We have given up enough control on out lives, I wish to retain control when in my car.

According to "dealer" (haha) he claims when fuse is pulled, OnStar is dead. I also believe that pigs can fly.

I would like unbiased advice as to confirmation that OnStar is indeed DEAD with the fuse pulled.

Found the OnStar module in the trunk, left hand side just behind the wheel well. VERY easy access, just lift the trunk side carpeting (it's not even fastened down).

NOTE: Although I pulled the 10A fuse, which appears to kill the OnStar system, there is a rather large lithium battery pack attached to the VCIM unit.

Disconnect the battery and unplug the two wiring harnesses and now the POS OnStar unit is certifiably DEAD!

Big Brother ain't gonna track me any more.
