heater blows cold air

2007 Chevy Impala Automatic

My family got this car fairly new last year. Last winter, we had an issue where the heater would stop blowing hot air when the car would come to a stop or be idling. We took it in to the dealer, they said they checked it and there were no problems. When we got in, the heater worked fine. This year, actually a few days ago, we noticed the same thing starting. Heater will only blow cold air until we are moving. At stop lights and when idling, it goes back to cold from hot. Any ideas? I'm thinking it was something loose that the techs touched last time and fixed and maybe has come loose again, but i'm no genius with cars..... Any help would be appreciated. TY

or it could be a possible short in the wiring or a possible HVAC controller going bad. do you have auto matic temp controls

My heater blows cold on my 3.9L V6 at idle even though the engine temp is mid-range. As soon as I rev the engine to 2000-3000 rpm, the air blows hot. When I let it idle down, the air cools off.
Any ideas?

You need to have the air bled from the cooling system.

I remote start the vehicle which is pre-propgrammed to run for 10 minutes. During this cycle, there is very little to no noticeable warmth going to the windshield to defrost on cold days. The fan blows full as required (automatically). Only when I physically key start the vehicle do I get warmth.

I have the same problem with my 06. When you start the car, I do not have remote start, and leave it in park it will not get verry warm. As soon as i start moving, or get the RPMs over 1.2k it gets hot, even when i stop at a light I notice it gets cool again. These cars just do not have great heaters and they do not register the need for heat at idle.

I"ve had alot of these vehicles do this,they have air in the cooling sys.try this bleeding procedure:Poor heat at idle, however, if the engine RPMs are raised the concern no longer occurs.

Recommendation/Instructions:
Note: Be sure to follow all SI safety procedures and caution notices.

With the engine cooled off, remove the coolant pressure cap.
Remove upper heater core hose from the metal pipe on the engine.
Add coolant to the metal pipe, until full.
Raise the rubber portion of the heater core hose as high as it will go with it still attached at the heater core. Using a funnel, add coolant until the hose is full.
Reconnect the heater core hose.
Start engine, have assistant raise the RPMs to about 1500 to 1700 RPMs, top coolant off at engine, then before lowering engine RPMs, install the coolant pressure cap.
Fill coolant reservoir as necessary, then check the heat at idle.
Note: If the vehicle returns for the same complaint perform the cooling system draining and refilling procedure

MY heater in my car is not blowing out hot air. The only time it does is when i give it gas when idiling or when the car is moving. Then the heat is great!! The rest of the time it just blows cool air. What can I do to fix this??

No heat when idling. Heats up when driving, cools when stopped.

check coolant level first thenif low add and then have pressure checked for leak.

My parents have a 2007 impala that not get warm until like a half hour. When we start the car it is freezing cold and wont get warm until it is on the highway. It also gets cold at idle. My dad checked the coolant and it was extremely low and that seemed to fix the problem. The coolant is slowly leaking though? Do you know what could be causing this? Any help would be appreciated Thank you

Yes low coolant level will cause heating loss. If leak is not external then likely intake manifold gasket or cylinder headgasket fault.

Try replacing the thermostat and see what happens

No circulation of water when i open the radiator, i do not see any water leaks, sometimes it needs water but not a lot most of the times its full. the water seems like its going through the block to radiator their is no blockage. I will drive it two blocks the most and it will be on the half mark on the temperature gauge but water would be boiling when i open radiator cap. the heater and air conditioner just stopped today but over heating started 2 weeks ago. also car has been parked 8 months prior from me buying it 3 weeks ago.

this may be a thermostat or head gasket problem have it pressure checked for leaks as it may be leaking between block and head. and have thermostat checked as that may be the problem as well.
