Could be the water pump open the cap fill it till its 1inch below the opening-Now start the vehicle and observe the coolant is it swirling around if so pinch off the upper hose for a few secs and let go-did the flow increases- if not its the pump

In my 2004 Impala the heater is not working. We have dual climate control. One side will blow semi-warm and the other will blow cold--while both dials are set on HOT! The defrost and AC and vent all seem to be working just fine, I simply can't get the heater to get warm. (Note our heated leather seats work, and all other systems seem in order.) I'm wondering about a possible diagnosis and general price range for fixing something like this?

Check your coolant to ensure it is at proper level. Low coolant will cause your heater to work improperly. If it is at proper level, it could be a a few other things. Most common would be the thermostat. Most expensive would be the heater core. Heater core repairs usually cost around $500 depending on vehicle. You should have your local dealer check to see if the thermostat and heater core are both in proper working condition.

My heater is blowing cold air. The engine temp gauge is reading normally. The blower is working fine, but is blowing cold air only.

- Check your level of coolant in both the radiator and overflow tank (engine cold!). Add GM dexcool coolant if necessary.
- Make sure there's no air in your system.
- Turn car on and let it reach normal operating temp. Then turn heat on high. Now feel both heater hoses in the engine compartment. If one is cold or lukewarm, your heater core is clogged (flush or replace it).
- Although your temp gauge reads normal it could be a bad thermostat; just in case you may want to inspect it.
-If all of the above are good, you could have a bad blend door actuator

For the past couple weeks my car hasn't been heating up as it should. It seems like the engine will get very hot then however the heater will only put out a very small amount of heat then the engine temp will drop closer to a normal range, then it goes back up. This pattern continues the entire time I'm driving. Note I live in Ontario it's very cold most days this time of year.

check and see if the cooling system is full and there isnt any leaks. you may be low on coolant causing air pocket in the system

Recently the heat on my car started having problems. When the car is ideling the heat won't work if i constantly press the gas the heat will work. I can't warm my car in the mornings because the heat won't work unless I accelorate it in the driveway. Please help

check and make sure the cooling system is full and you dont have any air pockets in the system. you may have a water pump or an intake gasket leaking

No I haven't has any work done to my car, I am going to check for an air pocket today. I have had the car for a little over 1 1/2 and the heat worked fine about 6 months ago it just started this problem, before that it worked fine. I replaced the thermostat switch in it hoping that would fix it but it didn't so now that is why I am seeking help. Thanks

I have a two question problem, 1st question: The heater does not want to put out hot air, the A/C and blower work just fine and I've checked all fuses related to the HVAC system and they seem fine. 2nd question is none of the power windows want to work, I have replaced the the outside RAP and according to the manual there is a inside RAP but I can't figure out how to get the cover to that off. I recently last my job so I'm trying to fix this myself because I can't afford to take it in and it's our only means of transportation. Thanks

first check and see if the cooling system is full. if it is low this may cause a no heat issue. for the window, do they work on any of the switches at all?

The fluid is full but really needs a flush and fill, as for the power windows, only the drivers side rear will go down about an inch then stop all others are non-op no matter which switche I try and activate. I did replace the drivers side master window switch module but it was still inop. However it does make a buzzing sound when any of the window switched are activated on the master module.

Hi,
When you say ‘doesn’t work’ do you mean there’s no air coming out or there is air but it’s not warm?
If no air at all: check fan fuse, relay and motor.
If you have air but it's not warm, check coolant level and thermostat.

I have a 2004 chevy Impala 3.8 that I am having heater problems with. I have warm air blowing out passenger side vents but cold air blowing out driver side. I have changed my thermostat and nothing changed now my coolant temp gauge flexes back and forth not staying at operating temp like when new. Any help would be great

Is the coolant level full? Did the temp gauge do the same thing with the old thermostat?

As far as the heat in the car, there is only one heater core that provides heat for both sides of the car. If one side is getting heat, then the other should unless there is a vacuum leak to one of the vent doors that directs heat / air flow to the different vents. Therefore, it is my opinion that since you get heat on one side, there must be a vacuum leak to one of the vent doors. Check under the dash for leaks or even linkage that actuate the doors that may have come disconnected. Also, with the engine running, you may get lucky and hear a hissing sound from where the leak is coming from.

Let me know what you find.

My heater has developed a mind of its' own. It would comes on, heat up, and randomly turns off for a random period of time then comes back on. Now there is no heat. Thermostat has been replaced, system flushed twice, heater core flushed twice and bled for air lock. In addition temperature gauge acts erattically going up to almost 125(in the red) and then going back to approx 80. My mechanic wants to replace heater core at ~$500 cost. Any suggestions

It sound like you may have a bad head gasket. I know that you mentioned that the system was air bled, but if the head gasket is bad it will contineiuosly add air to the system.

Have him check for a bad head gasket, see if the coolant overflow bottle shows any bubbles while the car is running. Or do a pressure test on the system and see if the pressue increases quickly when the engine is started.

04 impala heater stoped working, no water on floor on passenger side temp gauge almost to the max while car is warming up, also smells like its over heating

Try replacing the thermostat and make sure the coolant level is correct and go from there

I replaced the water pump and theramastat this past april,and the heater worked,now it onlw blows ice cold air all the time no matter how long the car is on,can you please give some ideas of what I should do to fix this problem

The first thing you need to check is if both heater hoses going to the heater core are getting really hot.Let me know what you find.

verify that the thermostat is not stuck open or missing.most likely you need to have the system bled,it is very common for this car to develop air pockets in the cooling system after it's been apart.IT'S EASY ENOUGH TO DO BUT YOU NEED A SPECIAL FUNNEL OR A VACUM FILLER.

I ahev a 2004 Impala. For a while I have been having a slight problem with my heat/air. when you first start car you have to hit dash to get the air/heat to come on and work. Now, it kind of works when it wants to- sometimes if you hit the dash and sometimes doesn't work at all. What could be going on?

bad connection somewhere behind the dash or a possible bad blower motor. you need a shop to at least diag it for you to confirm

when i turn the fan selector on full blast nothing comes on. i have rear defrost, no front defrost Engine temp is around 180. No burning antifreeze smell. so is is a resistor or the whole blower.

check fuse and relay under hood fuse box first. then see if resistor or blower are getting power or not. if no power to blower after relay/fuse check have a local pro scan for problems with control head.
