trying to open up the hood and the latch that is attached to the wire slipped out from the plastic latch piece.

if the handle broke off, you can grab the cable with pliers or vise grips and pull it and open the hood. If it broke off the mount altogether, then hold what is left in your hand or with pliers an dpull the handle it should release the hood. but make sure you have another cable to install when you do this....
