the sound i hear sounds like the lifters are tapping

HI there,

If this is the case, you can try doing a service and use a good quality engine flushing compound, follow instructions on the container and see if that helps with the noise, otherwise they will have to be replaced, have a mechanic listen to the noise before any further action is taken.
