2001 Chevy Impala Not Shifting

Yesterday my Impala started to not shift when it should be. It will stay in first for a very long time and then if you let up on the gas it might change into second. Once you get on the freeway it will also downshift and rev the engine with no reason.

What we are going to want to find out is if it is a transmission problem, and whether or not it's an electrical or mechanical failure.

Is the transmission fluid level correct? Check with engine running and in park.

The first thing to do is to have the PCM scanned for codes, then I can further advise you.
