transmission shifts hard and radical after 200 to 300 miles. Wife says it shifts hard in town with normal driving. Had the trans flushed last year.

sounds like a bad PC solenoid in the transmission.

Is that internal or external, and can a person with some aptatude replace it or is it for a shop machanic????

I would really recommend having a shop do the repair.
