2001 Chevy Impala Changing O2 sensors

2001 Chevy Impala 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

How do I change the O2 sensors on my car? I want to know how complicated it is to see if I can do it myself or if I should take it to a garage. Thanks.

Changing out O2 Sensors are pretty easy to do, some may be a little difficult depending were they are located.

Now the question is which one needs to be replaced, you have at least 3 maybe 4.

If you have the code post it and can tell you which one to replace.

The guy at Pepboys told me I had 2 sensors on my car,an upstream and downstream, and that I'd be better off just changing both. So that's what I was planning to do, so I didn't bother getting the code.

Ok, just checked and they are right you do only have 2....

One is located in the Exhaust Manifold on back side of engine near firewall and the other is located after the Catalytic Converter.

Which is unusual because most V6 Engines have an O2 Sensor in each Exhaust Manifold. But I haven't worked on any Impalas newer than 98.
