Noises problem
2000 Chevy Impala 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic >100,000 miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
The fan belt on my car continues to fall out of place and makes a very loud squeaking sound. I keep trying to put the belt back in place, but whenever I start up the engine it pops back off of the track. I think that the pulleys are the problem, because I've already replaced the belt twice but the problem continues to reoccur, and the pulley is coming loose on the cam shaft. How do I repair the pulleys to keep this from happening? Do you have any engine diagrams that might be useful?

Try replacing the tesioner assembly with the new belt, after it's all back together, check to make sure the belt rides in ALL pulleys, Chevy had an issue with thier 350 Vette engines where the harmonic balance pulley stuck out further than the rest, a new pulluey has been designed and is being installed on those engines!
