Engine Mechanical problem
2000 Chevy Impala 6 cyl Automatic

Hey. My car has a safety feature that keeps you from being able to pull out the key if not in park correctly. Well, my husband didn't know this and went crazy with the gear shifter thinking it was broke. Now it is broke. The key is stuck in the ignition (on dash) and the shifter is really hard to move (center console shifter). Now, I learn that it is an "ignition shift cable"--- the one running to the ignition, not the tranny. GM doesn't make the part and says it will be forever to get it. Aftermarket places won't give me one because they'd be esentially ruining a good car for a $60 part. ANY ADVICE? Can you maybe give me the "official" name of this part so I can search for it online? Would it be better to buy the whole shifting assembly? What exactly is that called? THANKS SO MUCH GUYS!
