The other day my equinox that I just purchased in Dec of 2009 was blowing black smoke from the backend. And then it would not accelerate past 9 or 10 mph and when idling it just decided to accelerate on its own. No check engine light came on. Took it to the dealership I bought it from and they have informed me nothing it wrong with it. How can that be? Does anyone have ideas what this could be? I am afraid it will happen again and the only thing I can think of that I did with the vehicle is that they did the 1st oil change on it about 2 months prior to this. Please help!

Hi
Most likely an intermittent problem and Dealer was unable to verify. The accelerator pedal is not a cable it is a electronic sensor so suspect problem maybe there.
Has this occured only once? Did you get a repair order? if not go back and get on record so if persists you have a case on record.
Hope this helps
Thanks for donate

The accelarating issue has only occurred once but the black smoke did it about a month before. What could the black smoke be from?

I had just driven about 250 miles and was going up a steep grade travelling about 85 MPH when I noticed smoke in my rear view view mirror. I looked in my side mirror and black smoke was seemingly coming from the exhaust. The car was not overheating and the engine light did not come on I did not notice any type of smell. I lowered my speed to 65 MPH and turned off the air conditioner for a minute or two (it was about 95 degrees outside). The smoke subsided so I turned the A/C on and increased the speed to 70 and it smoked again. I repeated the same and smoke went away. I had cleared the grade by this time so continued to 75 with the A/C with no more smoke.

Do you have any ideas on what would cause the smoke? I have never noticed smoke coming from the exhaust before.
