2007 Chevy Equinox Engine noise

I have a 2007 Chevy Equinox. As I was driving , around 40 mph, there was a hum from the engine area.When I accelerated the gauge moved just a little and the hum became louder. It lasted like a minute or two and then stopped. What could have caused this?

Hard to say without hearing, but my first inclination is a bad wheelbearing.

Take it back up to 40 mph and vere slightly to the left then right. Is there a hum noise then?
