Odometer light

You most likely just have a bad bulb that light's it up you would have to get a bulb and remove the cluster and see if the bulb is out.

I have a 2005 Equinox and recently had the problem with the odometer bulb going out. Only the bulb needs to be replaced, not the entire cluster. The process to remove and replace the bulb is a simple one. First tilt the steering wheel out of place, pull bezel straight out carefully, and with 7mm screw head remove the four mounting screws and pull cluster out. Disconnect cluster and remove burnt out bulb by giving it a counter clockwise quarter turn. Insert new bulb and turn it clockwise quarter turn. Plug in cluster again, insert the mounting screws, replace bezel. Very simple. The bulb replacement that I used was different than the original but has the same voltage and watts, the old one had a white base with frosted cover, while the new one had a beige base and clear, which made the new light brighter but very workable. I second armentim's answer. Dealerships will tell you you need a new cluster, but the back lights are the seven beige studs on the back and the one white one for the odometer specifically.

No need to get a whole new cluster ($450.00 or more by the time it is all said and done for the cluster/programming/etc).

I would not believe it until I did. Most cars require cluster replacement. Yes you can change the bulb. It probably burns out since it has a filter lens over it and does not let it run cool. Any other bulb on IPC will work fine.

My bulb replacement for the odometer was replaced in May 2012 and is still fine. Not burnt out and it saved me replacing the whole cluster. If it burns out, I will replace it again and get another three, no big deal.
