1977 Chevy El Camino V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic

Is it possible if you change the ignition in the sterring colum that could make the car not go into drive?

if your car shifts to all gears then no. Check your trans fluid level, then try all the gears if you have one gear then the trans is probably in need of rebuilding. Take it to a pro and have him check it out.
